Deborah needed time.
Give her a new word today, and she might not remember it tomorrow
She didn’t learn as quickly as some of the other children.
Give her a new word today, and she might not remember it tomorrow.
Teach her something once, and it might disappear.
Teach it again.
And again.
And again.
Then something remarkable happened.
It stayed.
Once Deborah understood something properly, it stuck.
The problem was that the classroom did not always give her that kind of time.
She was already in Primary Three.
Her classmates were reading sentences confidently. Some could stand in front of the class and read aloud without hesitation.
But whenever it was Deborah’s turn, everything changed.
She would stare at the book.
her heart would begin to beat faster.
The words that looked so simple to everyone else suddenly became difficult to put together.
She would struggle through a sentence.
Pause. (watch out for what happens to Deborah after she paused)
